Troubleshooting for " SAP INSTALLATION "


Troubleshooting SAP Installation Issues

SAP installation can fail due to several reasons.

The most common reasons for failure are listed in following table along with the remedial actions that can be taken.



SAP INSTALLATION Issues , Root Cause and Remedial Action taken.


1. Disk Usages : Root Cause for this : One of the SAP file systems become completely full and causing the installation to stop because it could not write the files to the disk any more.  

Remedial Action Taken : Use operating system specific disk usages commands ,such as bdf, df, du to check the disk usages and add more space if any of the SAP install relevant directories are full. 


2. Memory Utilization : Root cause for this issue : If the memory utilization of the system reaches 100 percentages , This causes either the system or a particular process not to start and the Installation will get failed.

Remedial Action Taken for this : Provide the additional memory needed to start the SAP instance or the failing process and successfully complete the entire Installation.



3. Network : Root cause for this issue : SAP Installs can fail because certain ports need for SAP services are taken by other applications running on the same host or due to the incorrect network configuration.

Remedial Action taken for this issue : The network ports needed for this SAP systems should not be occupied by other applications. If the are used, this can be detected using the "netstat" command and the network ports released.

Network configuration issue such as TCP/IP configuration issues ,incorrect hostname and IP address resolution have to be resolved.


4. Media : Root cause for this issue : Sometimes the downloaded software or the media is corrupted.

Remedial Action taken: Download the software again or order additional media as required.
